Steps

  1. Consider everything you want in an apartment and create a wish-list. Apartment rentals vary; you can find contemporary condos with killer kitchens, or lofts with exposed piping and industrial lighting.
  2. Use Google to get specific, for example, search for long term, or short term apartment rentals and skim through what’s out there. Most of the time there is a one year minimum.
  3. Check out different competitors’ websites and compare prices and sizes of furnished apartments. Sky View Suites offers unbeatable value.
  4. An alternative would be to check your local newspaper if you are searching locally.
  5. If you’re travelling, you can also try Craigslist to see what’s available in other areas. If you do find something there, be cautious and make sure to have all the arrangements documented. Beware of spammers online.
  6. If you have a shortage of time, and would rather not research your options, ask a real estate agent. You may have a friend who can refer you to a great one. An agent may be of help and show you places to check out.
  7. Schedule appointments to view rental units, set up multiples in the same day. Take the people you will be staying with if any, or a friend.
  8. Inquire about the ones that interested you, find out what is included with the rental. Utilities and appliances may or may not be incorporated.
  9. Settle on if you need parking or storage and let the owner know. Check if there are any extra fees, or security deposits. The worst thing is to be surprised and shocked upon leaving and faced to pay added costs.
  10. Read over the rental agreement and make sure there is nothing harmless in the fine print prior to signing. Confirm if there is a grace period just in case you need to cancel.
