- A couch that is comfortable, and if you frequently have guests who spend the nights, it may be a good idea to get one with a pull out bed
- A table that seats as many people as you prefer, with chairs
- Plates, cutlery, pots and pans, you can borrow these from family members
- Bath towels, soap and toilet paper, and your own personal toiletries
- Appliances, if not included: fridge, stove, washer/dryer
These are the basics that you need to get you through. With time you can put in more furniture and add your own character to your apartment.
Here’s what you can add later:
- A loveseat, chaise, or chair, they don’t have to be an exact set, but make sure each piece has a reference to the others
- A coffee table and side tables, try to get the same shape
- A rug, this should pick up on some of the colors in your apartment
- A TV and a piece of furniture to put it on, like an entertainment unit, or even a side console
- Artwork or pictures on the walls
- Artificial or fresh flowers and plants
- Lamps and candles
- Decorative pillows that relate somehow to the furniture you have, work with your color scheme
- Small appliances, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster oven
Be sure to include what is important to you. If you have trophies or awards then display them. Add things that give you a sense of comfort, happiness, or remind you of special times in your life. Keep your apartment organized and clutter free for the full effect.
